Ask 1099 Mom: Where Can I Find Work at Home Online Jobs?

This is perhaps the #1 question asked by moms who want to work from home.  They have the skills, the ambition, and often -- the time.  But where do they get the actual job listings for the careers they can do from home and with their trusty computer?

A tricky answer is that many of the really good jobs don't come from boards.  Most of my best clients come from referrals, word-of-mouth, or from networking with past clients at their new companies.  I did, however, have to start from square one, with a job board.  Here are some of the best places to look:


1099 Mom - Yes, we're just starting out, but many of the jobs you can find at other sites, including job postings for opportunities unique to our site, can be found at the 1099 Mom Job Listings each week here. 

Problogger.net - These jobs are tailored towards writers and bloggers.  Plenty of new opportunities each week.

Craigslist - You have to be very careful with this site, as there are hundreds of phony ads posted.  If you can spot the good ones, however, you will find that there are many large and small jobs in all kinds of industries.  Read more information about spotting job scams before applying.

FlexJobs - A great site with lots of opportunities. You will pay a fee to see postings.

Bidding sites - These sites take a while to master, as you need to apply, set a price, and wait to be picked before you ever get started earning.  The top sites for "bidding" on jobs include: Upwork (formerly eLance), iFreelance, Guru, and Freelancer.

Your Boss - Don't forget.. you may be able to work your existing job from home!  You won't necessarily be a 1099 worker, but it's a start!  Here are some great tips for convincing your boss to let you work from home.

Facebook Groups. Yes, these are a great place to hang out and learn about new jobs. Just do a search inside Facebook for groups that post jobs. Use our tips for using Facebook groups, too!

I realize that many of these are writing/blogging/web jobs, and won't apply to those of you looking for jobs in a different kind of field.  Since this is my expertise (and one of the quickest fields to get started in), this is the best way you can start a career today.  I would also recommend getting acquainted with a few sites that comb through all the listings for you, as they can send just the most authentic-looking jobs straight to your inbox or on a board of their own.
