Know Your Strengths to Make Your Business Successful
What time of day do you do your best work? In what conditions do you enjoy working? Have you ever asked yourself these questions? If not, you may want to stop right now and do so. When we take the time to set up our schedule based on what works best for us, we’re more productive. The same can be true for determining what type of work we like best. Take the time to know your strengths to make your business successful.
Why You Should Know Your Strengths
As a work at home mom, you juggle many titles and responsibilities. You
can make your obligations a bit lighter, though, if you utilize your
strengths and try to minimize your weaknesses.
What Time of Day Is Most Productive?
Knowing what time of day you’re naturally most productive and arranging
your schedule to make sure you can work during that time is essential
to making your business successful.
For years after I had children, I tried to do my work late at night
after they went to bed. However, I noticed that I wasn’t very
productive late at night. I was already tired from my day and tapped
emotionally, not traits that help a writer produce. When I instead
started getting up early in the morning, around 4 a.m. and working
until my kids got up at 6 a.m., I found my productivity jumped. I am a
morning person, and I do my best work in the morning when I’m fresh.
What Work Do You Prefer?
Likewise, you should determine what work you enjoy the most so you can
spend most of your time doing that work. Maybe you enjoy producing
content—writing articles or creating videos. If possible, most of your
work time should go to that endeavor, ideally during the time of day
you’re most productive.
Minimize Your Weaknesses
Know your strengths to make your business successful is essential, but
you also should know your weaknesses and minimize those.
Do Rote Work When You’re Less Productive
You can save the other work that you don’t enjoy as much for times when
you’re less productive. I dislike doing my bookkeeping, so I usually do
that in the evening because it doesn’t really matter if I’m tired when
I’m doing bookkeeping.
Outsource the Jobs You Dislike
If you’re a blogger, and you love creating content and engaging on
social media, those should definitely be tasks that you do on a daily
basis.
But, if you hate doing SEO work and going through your emails, rather
than trudging through those tasks and using your precious time, why not
outsource them? A VA can handle your SEO and email management, freeing
you up to do the tasks that you enjoy and that likely bring in the most
money.
Final Thoughts
We all have strengths and weaknesses as humans and business owners.
Take the time to determine your most productive time as well as the
jobs you love the most. Then, save rote tasks for less productive times
and consider outsourcing the tasks you dislike. Taking these steps can
not only make your business more successful but can also make you more
productive and happier.
