Tips for Becoming an Usana Health Representative
Today's I Want to Be features Holly Hedman, a homeschooling mom to 3 kids, ages 10, 8, and almost 5. Holly has been married for 18 years to a wonderful Army guy, Dan, who will be retiring in a few years. She and her husband operate an Usana Health Sciences business together, and Holly also runs a diaper cake business. Find out how to connect with Holly at the end of this article.
How long have you had your business?
Dan and I have
had our Usana business now for 3 years, and I just started making diaper cakes
this year.
What led you to pursue it?
Usana Health
Sciences is a health and wellness company.
I have always had an interest in health, physical fitness, and
nutrition. Three years ago, we were home
on vacation and visited our friends Dave and Heidi Carlson. I remembered she
drank meal replacement shakes, and I was looking for a new one. So I asked Heidi how I could get some of
those shakes. Well, come to find out,
they started selling them. I thought, great I can buy them from her! But then
Dan started asking questions about the business, and it all made sense! It was
like the stars were all in line! Wonderful business model, very high quality
products, and a great team to be on! We talked about it for about a week and
really believed this to be what we can do when Dan retires from the Army! We
are so happy that Usana has come into our lives!
Are you full time or part time? If
part-time, do you anticipate switching to full time?
At this time we
are working our business part time for two reasons. First, Dan is still on active duty, and
second, I really need to focus on educating our kids. Dan has a few years left
to go, and then we are going to start working full time! I'm looking forward to
that!
How do you market your business?
We share Usana
with our friends and family but also co-workers and people we meet. We do have
a Facebook page that I pretty much take care of called Coach Hedman Health and
Wellness. I share a lot of different health and wellness tips, recipes,
exercises, and more! We also have wellness events at the house, and sometimes
we have a booth at vendor fairs.
What is your favorite part of the
business?
I think for me,
one of my favorite parts of our business is helping people! It is so rewarding
to hear how we have helped our clients with their health, weight, skin issues, or
other issues they had! Another favorite part is the team we are on called
OneBody! Our team has so many wonderful people on it from all over the country
and some in other parts of the world! We feel blessed to be a part of such a
great team!
What advice do you have for others who
want to get into a similar opportunity?
If you are
looking for a home based business, do some educated research on the business
that you are interested in. Look at the
products: are they high quality? is it a
consumable product? and do you believe in them? Then look at the company: is it an ethical company, congruent, publicly
traded, credible, and solid? After that look at the compensation plan: is it
good for the average person and lucrative for the high achiever? Also look at the training you will get from
the company and the team you are on, the sales tools and marketing that the
company provides! These are a few things to look at when deciding which home
based business you want to be a part of!
What is the first step?
The first step
in any home based business is finding something that fits you and something you
believe in and trust. Then you do your research (as I mentioned above). Once
you find something that fits you, then contact someone in that field!
What websites or books do you recommend
for tips?
I have a few
favorite books that I recommend to people, and they are mostly health related
or business related. The Healthy Home, Accidentally Overweight, and Healthy
For Life are a few health related books.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad- any Darrin
Hardy books or John Maxwell books are also good choices. The list could go on, but those are a few we
love!
